The preliminary hearing for the double homicide is Sept. 19, however it's very likely to be postponed because both attorneys will want to do psych evaluations. The public defender said that so far Simich Jr. is getting fair ADA access in everything related to the case.
It makes sense to do a psych evaluation to determine Simich Jr.'s current mental state. And see whether he is able to stand up in court.
Also, the source indicated an increased awareness about the communication issue between hearing police officers and deaf people:
One of the local papers here did a story about how some of the police officers that responded to the homicide have recently enrolled in sign language classes.
Sometimes it takes a tragedy to open people's eyes.

Kokonut Pundits will follow the Simich Jr. double homicide case throughout its entirety, as much as possible when necessary.
