When Liberals Forget History on Presidential Ratings

Oh, now everybody screaming that President Bush' number on approval rating is so bad, he ranks as the all time lowest. Yet, that couldn't be further from the truth. It's low, but not the lowest. According to President Bush' average approval rating, it stands at 39.5% approval. But compare to past U.S. Presidents, President Bush 2 does not even get lower than President Clinton's lowest approval rating at 37%. Or his Dad at 29%. Or even Democrat Carter at a ball bustin' 28%. Or even Republican Nixon's criminal low of 24%.

Yes, that's right, kiddies. Every president since 1963 (after Kennedy) has had approval ratings, at one time or another during his administration, at least five points lower than Bush's current nadir. Now, if President Bush is a "failure" because of his approval rating of 39.5% (even hitting a low of 37% in only one poll recently in the CBS poll) and yet Clinton's lowest approval rating was at 37%, then what does that make President Clinton? An utter and disastorous failure? However you'll say it about President Bush on approval ratings, you'll drag President Clinton into it as well. Kind of a lose - lose proposition here.
