Well, after going back to see what's the heck is going on to take a second look about this whole Candy blogger affair I still find it all a bit comical and laughable in some instances. I barely remember coming across her original blogsite a few years ago. And then when she transferred over to a different blog with the name "Candy" she seemed to have exploded out of nowhere this year. And that's a good thing because that means more people are reading her blogs. And it certainly got some people to notice her a little bit too deeply. Anonymity as a blogger is a big part of the blogosphere. Not everybody wants to divulge their identity. But to do so on in an even smaller blogosphere called the Deaf blogosphere via Deafread is an entirely different set of environment.
Candy will not stop blogging just because a few people have personal grudges against her because of what she said in the past. I admire her and her informative blogging style. From her blogs and comments elsewhere I've not found anything offensive according to some people who claimed to be offended by her comments. Where? I think some Deaf people are offended by her because of her opinions and information about the recent AB2072 meltdown. And perhaps many felt that she was taking the limelight away from protesters of AB2072? Who knows.
Candy has a right as anybody else to blog her opinions on her blogsite. Bloggers do have the right to be anonymous. There are personal reasons for doing so. Outing her might seem "victorious" to a few people but I'm betting that the majority of readers find it a petty exercise. I think the real meltdown isn't Candy's own but somebody else. I believe she will continue as who she is. Her strong sense of character should attest to that.
Candy, welcome to THIS side of the blogosphere.

"Candy, welcome to THIS side of the blogosphere."
It's a lot more fun usually :) Better than being one the sheeple....
I didn't see Candy belittle or bashing others. She stated what she felt to be the truth on AB 20707. To me, her posts were informative. I think others didn't tolerate different opinions, callingthem 'bashing', 'belittling', and 'anti-Deaf'. Anti-Deaf? How can she be one? She is a DoD!

There was no meltdown on Candy's part. Whoever it was that had a meltdown over AB 2072 were the ppl who couldn't accept the fact that "one of their own", *gasp* a DoD had a view of her own. Runs completely against their "group-think".
If one reads thru the history of Candy's blogs, one will find that Candy has accorded respect to her commenters, even ones with opposing views on her blog topics. She never resorted to name-calling, belittling, bashing, or outting of those commenters, yet some ppl did those very things to her, after the AB 2072 issue. Some ppl called her arrogant, acting superior, hiding behind an anonymous name to attack others. Candy's been online for three years and never made it a secret that she's DoD in all that time.
Ok, so ppl get emotional over hot issues, but that is NO EXCUSE to trash an opponent thru personal attacks. Some ppl just can't stick to the issue after they run out of legitimate defenses, so they instigate a witch-hunt in an attempt to shut a person up.
Hot-button pushers are EXACTLY what the deaf community needs right now. It is learning some hard lessons, one in particular, is learning to listen to others who have a different perspective. There will ALWAYS be someone with a different view no matter what the issue, but ya know what? they're the very ppl pointing to what a community has a blindside to. Candy was pointing to the fact that sooner or later, the deaf community has to work with hearing ppl, hearing parents, and oralist institutions, in other words, the "enemy", while ASSERTING ITS OWN VIEWS.
She certainly was not advocating caving in to every one thing about AB 2072. For example, both Candy and I saw things wrong with the brochure being advocated by the the supporters, but wanted others to say what they wanted to see in a brochure. We weren't about to put words into other ppl's mouths about what we thot the brochure should be. We knew it could be better, but chose to let others say what they thot would be a better solution. It was part of the idea behind "planting a seed" with the author and supporters of AB 2072.
In retrospect, I hope that some ppl realize that their hot-button pushers, those love-to-hate-'em ppl, actually have a contribution to the discourse of a deaf issue, if they would only listen without letting emotions override everything else.
Unfortunately, because of a few ppl's actions against her, Candy will probably be moderating her blog and it won't be the same, it won't be the free discourse it once was.
My apologies for the long comment, Mike.
On BBF's blog, theHolism said that anonymity is not a right at all, just a tactic.
Curious what the rest of your little group think of that?
