You don't belong here at Gallaudet University

Worst thing to say to a deaf or hard of hearing person who is thinking of going to Gallaudet University, those who are currently students, or those who have been to Gallaudet University by another deaf person who is an alumnus by saying "you don't belong here at Gallaudet University." Yes, This was actually said against Charles Wirick in a case that showed increasingly the (circumstantial) evidence was more likely over miscommunication issues than anything else along with him being a target in the effort to get him to look like a trouble maker than not. Of course, there are possibly a few more varying factors that ultimately led to suspending Wirick for one year from Gallaudet University.

Lately, Charles Wirick's videos were removed for unknown reasons over the holidays. His account was also deleted.  If you haven't seen them then you're out of luck. But here's the burning question. Was bullying involved here that ultimately cost Wirick one year of suspension from Gallaudet University? Who was doing the bullying if any? Gallaudet University administration? The students? The Buff and Blue? By fraternity and/or sorority membersStudent Conduct Board? Who pushed whom over there? And why? Those the are questions I'm trying to raise here over my last several blogs about the Charles Wirick's case. What really happened here and seems like Gallaudet University does not really care or do not wish to address the issue at all.  How ironic and interesting to see all of a sudden Gallaudet University to start with this anti-bullying campaign just recently last year in 2010. Maybe they need to look at their own administration internally a bit more deeper and see who protecting who.  I'm sure it isn't the Pawheeves doing the protecting here which has mysteriously disappeared if you click on the link. But something is certainly going on within the system that has been worked in over the years,Vishnu or not. Right, Dwight?

Anybody who is deaf or hard of hearing is certainly welcomed to attend Gallaudet University and once there, no matter the preferred mode of communication, that person belongs there just like everybody else. It's really up to the person to decide for personal reasons on not wanting to go to Gallaudet University. And once that person graduates, he or she represents Gallaudet University. Just like me. I certainly belong but that's another story.  And I'll be sure to remind people that Gallaudet University must adhere to Section 504 ruling established by Congress.

Of course! Of course! Of course! This is a no-brainer. Whether they like it or not, the first definition of "deaf" is this, "lacking or deficient in the sense of hearing". It says nothing about our choice or method of communication! These radical capital "D" deaf people ought to find a new name for themselves if they really want to categorize themselves as something else. The term 'deaf' just won't cut it for them. When are they, if ever, going to get it? Duh.

Sure, but sick folks like ridor won't be happy until gally is an asylum for fringe lunatics. Sad.

Gallaudet is, for lack of a better word, "hearing-ized." They (the administration) has taken it upon themselves to patronize and condescend to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, subverting the can-do mentality so many have hoped to achieve in attending such a theoretically worthy school. The colonized, so to speak, has adapted the mentality of the colonizer, and it will take a fresh generation and some serious internal changes to facilitate that rise from the ashes.

Something isn't right with Wirick's stiutation. It's funny how certain people just jump to conclusion. This individual called Wirick a low functioning person. Wirick said he has dyslexia. Wirick isn't low functioning. It appears to me this individual only associates and/or mingles with people he thinks are high functioning. I have mingled with all kinds and you'd be amazed that the majority who appear to be low functioning are really quite intelligent. Don't judge a book by its cover. ;o)

Truth is, I felt bad that a lot of people are making Wirick's life difficult. People that supports this vlogger's demeaning video about Wirick.

Absolutely, Candy. When this first came out I sensed something wasn't right on how this whole thing was handled by Gallaudet, BnB, and the people involved (Sprouse, et al). And now, all of sudden you see the BnB article about Wirick disappear (of which I have a copy of). There appears to be a mix of bullying that have occurred, miscommunication, agendas, and even resentment or dislike against Wirick (and vice versa). I don't think one could pin exactly on what exactly makes this whole thing suspect on what exactly went on and why. Just that things do not jive here.

Now, if I had not brought up the Wirick's case chances are (close to a guarantee) that nobody would've brought it up after BnB reported on it first. And, ironically so, conveniently deleted their article about Wirick.

This is about taking advantage of what's wrong with the system and not about Wirick per se. Some of these things simply do not add up which begs even deeper questions as to why this has happened. Hence, my blogging efforts to try and uncover what went on. Those who continue to disparage Wirick only goes to show they're not interested in finding out the truth about why these things happened that eventually caused Wirick to be suspended for a year. What about others who have also carried out the rumors? Were they reprimanded also?

Parents of deaf children planning on sending their kids to Gallaudet University need to be aware of these things. For Gallaudet to suddenly come up with an anti-bullying campaign seemed convenient in light of the Wirick case.

I want to know exactly what is going on. Why has this happened in the first place? What are the biases? Who protecting whom? There is too many disconnect to even conveniently ignore this. Had I not done my blogging I suspect that BnB wouldn't have deleted their blog article on Wirick in the first place. Something happened there and people are not being honest or forthcoming. To say that Wirick does not belong in Gallaudet University is simply an irresponsible thing to say. First, it's questioning the number of "Jewish people" in the Hurwitz administration and next saying people like Wirick do not belong in Gallaudet University. Regardless, my goal was to hopefully find some light or reasons for all this that led to Wirick's suspension. So far, it has only raised even more questions than answers.

President Hurwitz and Gallaudet University, why so quiet?

Not only that...

Has anyone noticed that after several vlogs of Wirick attempting to explain what happened was removed, all of a sudden he was praising ASL as if he is trying so hard to fit in, to be accepted. Question is, who has been getting to him? Why is he trying so hard to convince people that he is using ASL?

Based on the time line and the recent vlogs targeting Wirick and the now gone BnB article, I have a pretty good idea what may be going on.

Did you know there was an assembly at Gallaudet where about 250 students gathered to talk about hearing space. (it's in the BnB)

I wonder if this was done just to pacify the students. Truth is the recommendations that the students offered is against the law. So, it would be interesting to see what develops from this point on.

If Gallaudet University administration, Alan Hurwitz, proclaimed that anybody is welcomed to its' campus regardless preferred mode of communicate. Then Ridor will spawn his own militia (weapon-free, of course) against Alan like he did to Jane Fernandes in years ago.

However, Ridor failed. He will be failed again with Alan, too. Why? Ridor's world is much smaller than he originally assumed. Basically, he is a closed-society.

Ridor and his folks' failure action has cost Gallaudet some million dollars before. He intends to do so again in near future.

He hasnt gained anything for the deaf community.

There is way more to all this than Wirick supposedly not being ASL enough. It's not his ASL that's really the issue.

It is that Wirick likes to mislead people. He has turned the Gallaudet situation into something political and bigger than it really is, when it's not a political issue. You are unwitting accomplices in turning this into a political issue.

By not political issue, I mean that it is NOT really because of him not being able to fit well in the deaf community. You see, he probably couldn't in the hearing world either, had he the ability to speak and hear clearly. This is because it's more of a personal issue than anything else.

For example, Wirick will lie to your face when it comes to just about anything, then sit back and laugh in private while watching you guys quarrel amongst yourself. All this is just one big game to him. He does not care if people or the deaf community gets hurt in the process.

He has bullied and used sadistic means to mentally and physically abuse several students at Gallaudet, even though that is something the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) isn't going to publicly disclose. He knows how to mirror/flip around other people's experiences with him and make it appear as if he was the victim, when in fact it's the other way around and he's been intimidating/bullying and doing all these things to people.

So, be careful about whose side you choose. Also, be careful about turning this into a political issue when it was more of a personal issue in the first place.

anony @1:57 PM,

I never said anything nor implied about "not ASL enough" but rather the potential for miscommunication either through his signing or that of those who read his signs. I could sign perfectly in SEE and still be "not ASL enough." ASL is not the issue here. It's the level of miscommunication that may have occurred.

Not picking side. I have repeatedly asked questions on the various possibilities. Prior to blogging this first I do not take anybody's at face value. this includes Wirick, Sprouse, the writer at BnB who did the story, and the people who have commented under BnB about Wirick. This includes you on taking face value on what you're claiming about Wirick - "He has bullied and used sadistic means to mentally and physically abuse several students at Gallaudet."

There are always two sides (or more) to the story. Always. You have to ask yourself like why did BnB write like that? Why did BnB pull the article? Who was really involved in this rumor? Etc. It has become a convoluted mess. So, what's the real truth? I don't know but somebody among those group of people involved are not telling the whole story truthfully. The BnB actually raised more questions than it did answering them.

I've not chosen sides here. Something or somebody is not being forthcoming whether its the students, fraternities, the administrations, or the staff at BnB. Something is not adding up and that is what my blogging has all been about.

It is classic example of captial "D" in progress since early 70's to weed out the lower "d" out of Gallaudet.

I was victim too because I am "not deaf enough"
