Captioned: Marlee Matlin interview on "The Talk" show
Captioning courtesy of Kokonut Pundit.
I spent three hours of my time to get this ready by listening to it on YouTube, writing it down, accessing Overstream.net, editing, and adding captions to it. It is a laborious process but it can be done. If I can do it as a one person effort I'm sure others can, too, whether if videos are done in spoken English or sign language. Travesty is when organizations, small or large, that target the deaf and hard of hearing population won't do their captioning. It'd be even worse among the signing organizations or companies who won't even put in an ounce of effort to include captioning for their signing videos. It wouldn't be just a travesty but plain hypocritical of them to behave like that. No excuse in this day and age when communication access is important over the internet for people with hearing loss. None. No excuse for organizations no matter how small or large to not caption their videos with the intention to reach a deaf and hard of hearing audience. Otherwise these organizations would simply be the selfish ones.
Enjoy the interview.

Great job, Mike! Thanks for your time and efforts.
Are we working together in tandem about Marlee Matlin? LOL!
Amy Cohen Efron
You're welcome, Amy.
Not working in tandem on purpose. Seems like Marlee Matlin is the discussion of the week, or month that is.
I think its awesome that out of all the DEAF charities and possibilities out there that she raised almost 1 million dollars last night for this organization. A organization that gives hearing aids to deaf children so they can hear. Never mind the whole asl rah rah blah blah, she is providing these children with the ability to HEAR.
The Deaf community should be up in knots but hmmm are they? Its ironic...
Lolypup,
Yeah, I wonder, too. Yet I CHALLENGE the folks at DH Foundation (or their well connected folks) to form a protest group against Marlee Matlin and Starkey Hearing Foundation for their horrible, horrible a-wordistic, "anti-deafhood" violation, attitudes, blah blah blah and blah so that the world can hear their protests. They raised a ruckus when Starkey provided students at OSD on that Extreme Makeover show. And you know what, NAD didn't dare do this.
If they considered the giving away free hearing aids during the taping of Extreme Home Makeover extreme then I can certainly say they'll feel that what Marlee and Starkey are doing are even more extreme.
Well, strike up the band and start protesting!!
Last year Starkey Hearing Foundation raised over $5 million dollars with many, many big named celebrities who gave and helped the cause. That is annual charity event. With $5 million dollars that's the equivalent of some 500,000 new hearing aids to deserving kids from around the world.
This year is off to a great start with a $1 million check from Marlee Matlin and her team ASAP.
We KNOW for a fact that there are notable and well known culturally deaf leaders who were vehemently against the hearing aids giving to the kids at OSD. How petty. You can bet they are even more against Starkey and Marlee Matlin (who, btw, used her voice a lot in Episode 5, especially shouting at the top of her lung at the art gallery to get everybody's attention) over a....of all things....hearing aids to deserving kids around the world.
Lolypup, I know that this realization is grating them to no end. They cannot even say a kind word on what Marlee and Starkey are doing.
Two separate issues herein:
Firstly, had I been in Marlee Matlin's shoes, I would have been much more thoughtful and generously donated $1 million to the hungry and the sick -- NOT to Starkey Hearing Foundation -- or to any hearing aid company, for that matter.
Secondly, Republican Donald Trump hopes for more DEAF people to vote for a Republican for 2012.
Trump enjoys people's naivety immensely.
Anony @10:18 AM,
Always a good thing to donate $$ to the hungry and sick but Marlee has her own charity she fully supports and that's the Starkey Foundation. That $1 million dollars will generate about 200,000 to 300,000 free hearing aids to deserving kids around the world. What a deal! These celebrities just pour out their hearts for a good cause. There are many, many good causes out there today. Pick and choose the ones that suits you and your goal. You're not Marlee. She got the $1 million and gave it to Starkey.
As for your comment about Trump, maybe try and keep your own conspiratorial thoughts to yourself next time?
My conrition: I forgot to sign my name for my comment at 10:18 AM.
Jean Boutcher
Plus, to say, "you should've donated $$ to hungry and sick" is sometimes a sign of resentment, maybe even bitterness or disappointment. It's usually the first thing that comes out when it comes to donating money and when people don't like to hear where money is being donated to they use the tried and true comment of "you should've donated $$ to the hungry and sick."
Where's the congratulatory note to Marlee on raising money and donating it to the Starkey Hearing Foundation for more free hearing aids to deserving kids around the world, Jean?
Marlee kicked butt and the kids will thank her for that!
I realized a typo earlier. It's 20,000 to 30,000 free hearing aids because of Marlee Matlin's team donation of $1 million dollars to the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Not 200,000 to 300,000. LOL. But perhaps that won't be far off for that to happen very soon?
