The Murder of Maj. Gregory Stone

It was a shock when I heard about the murder of Major Gregory Stone who was my cousin. I never knew about him until I got the word about him. He was murdered in a grenade tent attack in Kuwait in 2003 by Sgt. Hasan Akbar. This low life and coward Akbar is charged with two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted premeditated murder. He could get the death penalty if convicted, and I hope so when all evidences are presented in the court.

I received the news from mother who got the call from Betty Lenzi (Gregory Stone's mother). Both Betty and my mother are cousins who grew up in Oregon. Soon afterward I made a cell phone call to Frank Lenzi who works at KPAM radio station in Portland, Oregon, so I could express my condolences and introduce myself as a cousin of Gregory Stone. I wanted to contact his mother, Betty, and asked him to relay my permission to contact her by giving him my cell phone number. A few hours later, Betty called. We chatted for about 15-20 minutes. It was a nice chat. Voice of a strong and proud mother. We talked about how she remembered me when I was a toddler. That was the only time I ever "met" Gregory when he was little as well. My mother held him in her arms only a few times before we moved to Washington state. That was the last time my mother ever saw Gregory.

The Lenzi and Stone families have gone through a lot anguish but are extremely proud of their son who loved the Armed Forces life. What made it especially more troubling is Michael Moore's despicable act of filming Maj. Gregory Stone's funeral at Arlington Cemetery. Moore used the film clip of the funeral in his highly innacurate and tasteless Fahrenheit 9/11 movie. An outrage!

The Lenzi and Stone families were completely shocked and outraged when they were contacted by the press about the film clip of their funeral. Michael Moore is an unAmerican weasel who have no respect and neither the courage to even ask the Lenzi and Stone's family for permission to use the film clip. A typical M.O. of Michael Moore. A sure sign of a weasel.

Family of Major Stone Upset Over Michael Moore's Movie
The family of Idaho Air Guard, Major Gregory Stone said they're being exploited by filmaker Michael Moore.

Major Stone's family said a video clip from the funeral service last year at Arlington National Cemetery was included in Moore's controversial movie Farenheit 9-11.

While watching the movie, the family was shocked to see film clips of the burial.

"When he died, that was all Michael Moore gets from Greg," said Stone's aunt, Kandi Gallagher. "He doesn't get to throw Greg into his movie and profit off it."

Sgt Akbar will get his full due when the time comes when the court decides. What he deserve is the death penalty. No less and let the maggots eat his flesh for a change.

You betray yourself.

Freedom of speech. Ever heard of it? Like it or not, it's there.

I don't believe in Death Penalty.

It is wrong that I insult you with funny remarks but it is OK for you to make fun of Michael Moore's appearances.

Such a hypocritical figure.

I support the death penalty. And secondly, I never made any mention of Moore's appearances. Even I like to eat Big Macs and greasy fries. Don't pat yourself too hard on your back with you assuming everything I say. You've been wrong on all counts so far. Might want to stop while you're ahead since you find my blog "boring." Pretty weak if you keep coming back. Gluttony has a way of biting back.

Mike,

I want to pass along my sympathies for the death of your cousin. Everything I know about this particular incident points to it being cold-blooded murder, and I can't even imagine what you and the rest of his family has been through.

As for the Moore incident... I've worked as a journalist for the past nine years, full and part time, and I have a long knowledge of Moore's work. I think he is a technically gifted director, and one of the only people that tackles issues (such as outsourcing, our country's unhealthy obsession with guns and fear) that very few people even want to touch.

That being said, I do think he plays too fast and loose with the facts in his films if it can lead to good theater (an unfortunate trait shared by extremists on the left and right). As an old journalist, accuracy is important to me. And I have no idea what relevance footage of Greg's funeral would have to trying to prove Iraq was an unjust war. That was just low class, especially using it without the family's blessing.

Just as a general comment about your blog, it is real refreshing to read the views of someone with as unique a viewpoint as yourself. I admit I am not a Republican supporter (I classify myself as an independent who sympathizes with Dems) or a supporter of the Iraq war. I don't have the time to change you over to my point of view, but I'd suggest it might be good to read some of the recent books out by Thomas Friedman, Fareek Zaharia (that might be a typo), Niall Ferguson (a conservative Harvard econ prof, you'll like him) and James Carroll on the Iraq war and mideast issues. Those guys have a lot to say about the real problems facing the Middle East but don't do it in the same cliche way a lot of the new leftist pundits (or the right-wing ones) do it. These guys know what up in the Middle East, in my opinion.

Best wishes.

Leege,

Ever since the phenomenom of bloggers hitting the internet, such a site as http://www.iraqthemodel.com has given unseen perspectives of true Iraqi people who sees the bigger picture of democracy and freedom where the mainstream media or even books by authors (non-iraqi or even non-middle eastern background) cannot even get the same depth and insight as some of those bloggers.

Bloggers have given a bigger picture and legitimacy for readers where mainstream media have failed (and refused) to do so or even try.

As for Michael Moore. I have no sympathy for him, even before the film clip debacle. What he does is skew the picture and pass it on as facts and truths of the matter when they are not. He has the ability to misrepresent certain segment about politics and public without ever uttering a single lie and let people interpret themselves on what they see on the viewscreen.

Sorry, in my book, Michael Moore is simply another pathetic creature who raised his fist at the corporate world and rich people alike when already he has become one.

If you want good examples, consider the corporate practices of Ben and Jerry Ice Cream.

I don't tolerate extremist views or conspiracy theories well.

Oh, btw, it's Fareed Zakaria. I've heard of him. Here's his latest (two days early that is) article

"When the U.N. Fails, We All Do"
http://www.fareedzakaria.com/articles/articles.html
It's a good article, problem is that when the U.N. fail...they fail...not the United States (depending on whose president at the time) knowing our understanding of the concept of freedom and democracy when 2/3rd of the U.N. delegates are from countries that are dictatorial in nature where nearly all of them gave Kofi a standing ovation on his refusal to step down. The United States didn't fail...they did and refuse to see their mistakes at face value.

If an innocent person was executed, it was not the fault of government, it is you. The taxpayers who contributed to that. Let the blood be on your hands.

FREEDOM is for you, only you but not anyone else but only YOU.

You talked about Moore's gluttony, mainly because he is FAT. You knew it. Don't exonerate yourself on this subject. When you talked about food + Moore, it equals "FAT". That is what you were referring to. I am not that stupid.

You should be ashamed of your antics.

Wrong on all counts. Yes, your blog is boring but someone has to monitor the misinformation that you are spreading all over.

Moore's gluttony goes beyond his weight, Ridor. It's actually located between his ears, in that space called a brain. But I digress.

Mike, let me once again convey my condolences. As the wife and daughter of a Veteran I know the sacrifices our men and women make. I do hope Sgt. Hasan Akbar receives what is coming to him, and quickly!

No. Actually, that's quite incorrect regarding "blood on my hands". That falls directly on the jury who decided for the death penalty. As a tax-payer I support the death penalty as long as there is direct evidence of involvement in the murder of a person or persons. It is regrettable that there were those who were executed wrongly because of false or misleading evidences. This is why I support DNA evidence.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Actually, FREEDOM is for everybody. Or haven't noticed that I support the war on Afghanistan and Iraq to free the people from tyranny? Freedom begets democracy. Save your inane remarks for somebody who gives a hoot.

I'm going to let you figure it out about Michael Moore again. You missed the nail, again. And it's certainly not about his appearance but that's another story.

"You should be ashamed of your antics." - Uh, I never called you names when you did to me at every turn at your website. Please, spare the "holier than thou" attitude. You need to look into the mirror once in awhile.

No misinformation to spread. Based on facts and opinions. I provided the links. You haven't. :)

But you can keep trying in this "boring" site.

To the deaf version of Michael Moore... Ridor, shut up. You are embarrassing yourself - REALLY! You are showing people that you do not have a heart (the so-called center of emotion) and lacks bunch of axioms between your defunct ears.

Go off and eat those raw burgers you so dearly like.

Nevermind me, continue embarrassing yourself. I'm all for it.
