I was in an email discussion with a deaf person I know (a non-blogger/vlogger) who explained to me what he saw in some videos vlogs with the name Barry Sewell coming up. He further explained that one of the basic complaint from those vloggers is that Barry is trying to seek attention to himself in his vlogs. This was funny considering what my friend said about those vloggers who were doing the same thing by vlogging on much more frequent scale than Barry! Pretty ironic when it comes to complaining about others "seeking attention." Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black except it was done in poor fashion by actually whining to the video audience seeking their attention that Barry's videos were done to seek attention. I can only shake my head with this laughable irony. Except this time Barry wasn't doing the whining or complaining here. It was some of those vloggers. Maybe they need to take their own advice this time and not complain so much like a squealing stuck pig?
Now, I like Barry. He's a good conversationalist. He seeks to understand and learn a variety of things about life. He a natural outdoors fellow and love all things natural seen in nature. Loves horses and animals. There is something to be said for living out in the open land away from the congestion of polluted and crowded cities in favor of a more natural and spiritually enhancing place. There is nothing wrong with living in the great open spaces of America. In fact, it's one of the best places to go to seek refuge and peace for the sake of body, mind, and spirit. If you don't believe me then why do Americans take off on their vacation to go camping, visit the many great outdoors like Yellowstone Park, the forests, raft the rivers, swim in the lakes and such? If anybody is smart enough already it is to avoid the crowded cities or the rat race of city life. Like me, I seek the open spaces as well as much as possible. And I'm fortunate that I am able to experience that on a daily basis. So is Barry.

Nice tribute. I have known him from the first day he showed up on DeafRead...
Mike,
Since we are only getting this information about the puzzling irony from your non-blogger/vlogger friend as hearsay with no link of any kind so we, including you, Mike can make our own judgment to decide if this puzzling irony is the pot calling the kettle black.
Could you please get the links from your email friend?
And if Barry wants to live out in the open land away from the congestion of polluted and crowded cities in favor of a more natural and spiritually enhancing place, then why is he so involved on his toxic computer whining and complain so much about Ella, NAD, DBC, etc like a squealing stuck pig?
Mike, I use your quote, "I can only shake my head with this laughable irony"... regarding of how you are relaying your message on this post.
to quote my girl Candy: John, is that all you got? It amuses me to no end when Barry makes his sharp points and no one can reply to him without getting personal. How about responding to Barry's points for a change? I cannot recall a single blog or vlog where someone actually addressed his points. I've been waiting a long time for someone who can respond rationally and factually. I'm guessing it's because Barry's detractors realize they can't defend their stances with emotional arguments? I don't agree with everything Barry says, but I totally respect his honesty and courage for saying the truth as he sees it.

You know that Barry have rejected many comments responding to his points and only approve the comments which are from his "friends". Go look at all of his posts and see who the only ones that are approved and it is more likely from Mike McConnell, Candy, White Ghost, Karen Mayes, Richard Roehm, etc.
John..
You have a blog, respond via your blog. Ask questions via your blog. I can't say I blame him, now that I know what it is like to be attacked personally by a few vloggers/bloggers.
But, I would caution on responding in a personal way, tackle the topic not the person.
My blog was simply to convey what one person noticed in an email to me. After looking I have to agree with that person's assessment. Doing any vlog is about getting people's attention. Doing any blog is also about getting people's attention. Why whine about somebody else's vlog claiming he or she is doing it only to get attention? Seems rather ridiculous if not extremely petty because the vloggers doing the whining are actually trying to direct attention to him/herself about somebody else! It's like "Hey! Look at meeee! I got something to say! Got some juiccccy tidbits for ya! blah blah blah..." That fits the definition of wanting attention. Hey, even my blog is about getting your attention. What blog or vlog isn't about getting people's attention? By its very nature it's about getting people attention. Seems rather hypocrital and ironic for vloggers to attack other vloggers or bloggers for seeking attention. It like a pot calling the kettle black.
Learn to debate on the merit of the argument and not about making personal attacks. Doing so makes you the weaker person. If you don't have any proper rebuttal to counter an argument then it'd be best not to whine and commit to personal attacks.

Hi Mike.
So, people at the v/blog sphere are still talking about me? I hope they're doing it for the sake of love because if they don't they're giving themselves serious case of ulcers. LOL.
Anyhow, one only need to take a peek at DeafVideo.tv's statistic chart and understand the point you've just made.
Out of approximately 500 really active vloggers I rank at #211 as the most active vloggers. And yet I rank #12 for most visits, #3 for average visits, #3 for total views, #1 for average views, #13 for total comments, and #2 for average comments.
Now what does that tell you? I'm a good conversationalist just like you pointed out. Several months ago I told Big Ben Factor something. Told him I don't talk about butterflies and stuff.
John,
You're so naive. You're still thinking of the "industrial age" where people had to work in the big cities to make a decent living. Thanks to "information age' we no longer have to do that. In short, you could be doing anything out in the country and stay active in the business or political world, with the click of a mouse.
FYI, I made my fortune when I purchased so much rural properties (out in the country) right before the information age arrived. When the information age arrived everybody realized they could work from any where. They got out of the city like crazy and bought up country properties. I sold properties like hot potatoes while people like you bought properties in the city.
As for rejecting comments you must be talking about my blogs. Any comments that contains childish emotional outbursts won't make it. I made that known to everybody including you. You called me many names and for that reason your comments do not make it in. It was my challenge to people to pick themselves up, emotionally and mentally. You and many others failed to do that.
As for vlogs at deafread.com, I block people who try to pollute and confuse the subject. It's one reason why mature people feel VERY safe under my vlog. Look at the stats. They know I won't tolerate such behavior therefore people felt very safe under my vlogs. It's how I protect the subject and the people that want to come into my vlog. It's a privilege, not rights, to participate in my v/blogs. I know, this is something you simply do not understand but that's your problem.
Anonymous,
I appreciate your comment above. I'm a skilled debater and I don't shy away from this fact. I'm always interested in having healthy debates and it's simply unfortunate for people to become emotionally angry or frustrated because they could not respond rationally and factually. It's what I've also noticed.
John,
I've raised numerous good questions and points with your favorite sister, Ella, many times. She dodged them each time. There are many witnesses out there who will vouch this, except for those who can not debate rationally, like yourself.
Barry, you said,
"Anyhow, one only need to take a peek at DeafVideo.tv's statistic chart and understand the point you've just made.
Out of approximately 500 really active vloggers I rank at #211 as the most active vloggers. And yet I rank #12 for most visits, #3 for average visits, #3 for total views, #1 for average views, #13 for total comments, and #2 for average comments."
Your statistics doesn't mean you are popular.
AT the Zoo, many people go to the snake pit and peek to see what the snake looks like and just browse but it doesn't mean that they will associate with the rattlesnakes.
what matters the reason why so many people visit, view, and/or comment on Barry's vlogs and blogs? like the billboard says: "Made you look. Advertise here." Love him or hate him, the numbers say everyone wants to know what Barry's got on his mind. It's guaranteed to be thought-provoking and interesting, if not downright entertaining and enlightening. On the other hand, there's quite a few v/blogs I don't visit any more because they aren't the least bit stimulating. I'll let you guess which ones they are.
John, it means that alot of people look him up in his vlogs.
That snake analogy of yours doesn't make any sense. People go to see a snake because they are curious. Many go because they like snakes. Many go because they do not like snakes but as a matter of facing their own fear of snakes. Many go because they want to learn about snakes and see the many different variety of snakes. Whatever animals at the zoo people go to, popularity varies among them.
Regardless, Barry is in fact a popular vlogger and blogger to many people.

John, you have a victory on your hands and your organization, DBC, has this opportunity to take advantage of it...ICED (International Congress on Education of the Deaf which imposed the ban of Sign Language for the Deaf in education in 1880) issued an apology and lifted the ban of sign language earlier today. Now you have a new goal... make the best of it.
Some of us like one blogger while others like another blogger... so what?
Good luck with DBC.
John,
As usual you missed the point. I never claimed to be popular so I'm not sure why you invented such notions in your head. Maybe it's because you really believe I'm so popular. Precisely why I always say, "words are like mirror, a reflection of self". You thought I said I was popular because you believed it. Now you see, whose problem is it? Yours or mine?
Your comment also indicated something else. You've never been to a lot of places where rattle snakes are handled with bare hands, treated with ultimate respect, and the handler does not get bitten at all. Oh I know. You've never been to places like the Zuni and the Hopi reservations because you're so obsessed with your closed society. When you do something like that your mindset becomes narrow. So narrow that you'd fall off it. No offense intended.
One more thing John... you talk of zoos. I talk of folklife. Big difference but you would not know it. I usually don't exploit people like you but you gave me a reason to make an exception here.
Let's talk about folklife... you went to NAD convention, to the very same old (closed society) world that you belong to for so many years. Me? I didn't bother with that. While you were up there, glorifying yourself in this deaf world of yours I visited a total of nine (9) Native American reservations in three weeks. It was unplanned for but I took off anyway with my family, entrusting the spirits to guide us wherever we needed to go.
Met with some Elders, Wisdomkeepers, Spiritual Leaders and Medicine Men while I was at it. Talked to them about deaf culture and sought their advice and wisdom on issues such as cultures, eradication of a language, etc; They welcomed us into their homes where we would talk about you guys and why you were so afraid of changes, etc; My entire family were invited into sacred sweat lodge ceremonies as well as sacred pipe prayer ceremony.
You can guess what we did while we were doing during these ceremonies. We prayed for the entire deaf communities, especially for those who are so afraid of upcoming changes, like yourself. Some of the prayers were done in their native language and some in English. Two individuals even done it in Indian Sign Talk. Take note here... they call it Indian Sign Talk instead of Indian Sign Language.
You see, John. I get out of my comfort zone and explore the unknown. I don't play it safe and hide in my own world. Feel free and compare me with yourself if you are really concerned about my existence.
One Spiritual Leader had a piece of advice for everybody. He said, when the student is ready, the teacher will come. In short, you will learn when you're ready. It also mean you will never learn if you are never ready. And you wanted to talk about Zoo? My ass.
Ah,
Sacred sweat lodge ceremonies....and peyote too?
Good idea, I better not have anything to do with you.
Bye
John, I'm not sure why you continue to make a fool of yourself like that but I never said anything about peyote. I've never seen a ceremony where peyote were used and I do not tamper with such thing. However your comment here is an insult to Native Americans and a reflection of typical ignorant white European.
Heck I don't think you even know anything about it and how it's traditionally used by the Native Americans and the purposes behind it, etc; You'll probably run over to Wikipedia and take a crash course on the subject.
What you said in the last part of your comment excited me. Stay away from me. That's what you said you would do a long time ago but you continue to love to talk about me. Could you just make up your mind about it?
John,
Like Barry said, make up your mind and decide whether to stop talking about Barry or focus on your own goal on your assimilation efforts.
