RELAX! This is diversity!

I've always recognized the diversity within the deaf and hard of hearing community and that no matter what their mode of communication is no one is belittled for their choices. None. Whether it's preferring to sign in SEE, SE, PSE, MCE, Rochester Method, speaking and listening (oral-auditory), cued speech, or even ASL. It is also about people who prefer their hearing aids, cochlear implants or none at all. And with diversity it is also about recognizing people's varying experiences and skills that shape their opinions and understanding in life with their hearing loss.

My experiences and skills do not invalidate other deaf and hard of hearing people's experiences and skill. But we do have opinions on a variety of issues and subjects. And we should simply respect people choices on how they wish to communicate as long as access to communication is there. Just as I provide captioning in all of my speaking videos with the goal of including captioning to all of my future signing videos or vlogs.

Isn't diversity a wonderful thing?

The quote "RELAX! This is diversity!" came from Bgmaron8. Check it out. And he's exactly right.

I simply don't agree with your own thinking about diversity. The reason is it s all about their own Deaf cultures from all of Deaf community s own languages. Not audism s own artificial languages that interfere our own natural visual languages which it relates American Sign Language from a start. No wonder Audism fails Deaf education all along for many years. Don't expect us to hear the spoken language or lipreading that hurts us the most if you mind.

All Deaf communties from their Own Deaf cultures they do have the part of ASL in their own deaf languages, you cannot we are really part of Diverity that exists for us yet. Audism have no respect for all Deaf people ever since Oralism tried to get rid of our Importance of our basic needs and a real natural language in our Deaf cultures of you mind. Now medical;, audiologists , gov't , audism people are not telling peole the whole truths for soany years.

Don't tell me to relax after all they harms and kill us in many ways that is already hurt our Deaf communities in their own deaf cultures.

Deaf will be always deaf. We deaf people have our rights to be who we are being deaf as is. You are having a real issues about your own soul of your own against yourself as well. There is nothing to prove us how great it s to be a shadow hearing after all they are still don't respect us after all it s still oppression and discrimination.

Sorry, DM. Fact is there is diversity out there whether you like it or not.

That's life.

Relax.

Enjoy.

True, there is much diversity within the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communuities. The communication modalities you list - SEE through ASL - are valid. Hearing aids or CIs are not communication modalities. Therefore, they do notr contribute to the diversity within the Deaf community. They are not valid communication means. Recognizing varying experiences can lead to further understanding of Deaf. However, I wonder if "hearing loss" can be understood in that it is a stagnant label that is non-descriptive.

The recognition of varying experiences and skills leads to a deeper understanding of Deaf. And in a way, it may lead to an understanding of the use of the negativity in "hearing loss", with emphasis on "loss".

Agreed, the experiences and skills of one person do not invalidate the experiences and skills of another. They may provide insight into the formation of ideas and opinions. Which then could lead to an understanding of the skills and experiences of another.

I would be a bit fearful if there was not a variety of opinions concerning the variety of issues and subjects.

With the idea of respecting the communication choices of another comes the idea that certain choices are inherently harmful. Communication choices need to be respected, as does the information that leads to the position that not all choices are equally safe and/or equally valid. Some choices carry with them the inherent danger that is better off avoiding than trying to repair.

Yes, diversity of healthy choices is a good thing.
